Brunching with Stella at Orphans Kitchen

Stella McCartney knows women. She knows how they think, how they feel, how they act and what they need. She knows how to make women feel sexy from the outside in, and from the inside out. The Stella girl is confident, sophisticated and she knows what she wants, but underneath it all she’s all woman – just look at her underwear. Playful, feminine and made to be seen, welcome to the world of Stella McCartney Lingerie.

Remember that rainy Auckland Thursday last week? Well, when you were rushing into the office I was lucky enough to be be strolling into Orphans Kitchen for an intimate brunch to celebrate the launch of the new Stella McCartney Lingerie A/W15 Collection. Convenient too as I had been drooling over the eatery’s new brunch menu ever since it started showing up all over my morning Instagram feed. Breakfast with a side of silk and lace, now that’s my cup of tea.

The upstairs at Orphans Kitchen is easily one of my favourite little pockets in Auckland. Light, airy and perfectly cosy, it was a dreamy complement to the luxurious lingerie. Its feminine palette included vibrant blues and pale pinks, rich reds and a striking mustard, all beautifully made with delicate silks and suggestive lace (you know what I mean). Aesthetically and sensually it’s a temptress’ dream.

And if Stella McCartney knows women then Orphans Kitchen knows food. The brunch menu was delicious, of course, just as I expected. I ordered the half grapefruit with coconut sugar to begin which was such a refreshing treat to start the day, especially when paired with the most beautiful infusion of ginger and licorice tea I think I’ve ever had. The coconut sugar took away the bitterness of the grapefruit, but tread carefully my friends, this pretty little thing will squirt.

I followed with the puffed grains and panna cotta which was served with kiwifruit sorbet and berries. It was like dessert at breakfast but without a hint of guilt. Light and healthy this one’s a winner!

I must admit I had food envy at every dish that was served, but that’s okay – I’ll be back  to try the mushrooms and the avocado and goat’s cheese on toast very soon. We finished the meal with the most adorable bite sized white chocolate brownie with a swirl of butter cream. Heaven.

Oh Stella, how I love you so. If only every day began with a lingerie time out the world would be a much happier place. Or at least we’d forget it’s still raining in Spring.

Happy (rainy) Monday!

Note: Stella McCartney Lingerie is available to purchase in New Zealand at Bendon (in store and online). Orphans Kitchen is located at 118 Ponsonby Road and is open for brunch from Wednesday to Sunday, 7am to 2pm.
